This Privacy Policy explains how Ben Xie ("we", "us", or "our"), operator of ValueCopilot (the "Service"), collects, uses, and shares information about you.
1. Information We Collect
Account information
When you sign up, we collect your email address and, optionally, your Google account ID (if you sign in with Google).
Usage data
We collect information about how you use the Service: the features you use, the stocks you research, the theses you build, your DCF inputs, and your chat history with the AI copilot. We use this to provide and improve the Service.
Payment information
When you subscribe to a paid plan, payment processing is handled by our merchant of record (currently Paddle). We do NOT collect or store your credit card or bank account information ourselves. We receive a customer ID and subscription metadata from our merchant of record.
Device information
We may collect technical data automatically, including browser type, operating system, IP address, and pages visited, for analytics and security purposes.
2. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
- Process subscriptions and billing
- Send transactional emails (account confirmations, receipts, password resets)
- Detect and prevent fraud or abuse
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your personal information.
3. Third Parties
We share information with select service providers who help us operate the Service:
- Supabase — stores your account, theses, watchlists, and usage data
- Anthropic — processes AI chat messages. Your messages are sent to Anthropic's API to generate AI responses; Anthropic does not use this data to train models unless you explicitly opt in to model training.
- OpenRouter — when using non-Anthropic AI models, routes messages to selected third-party model providers
- Paddle — processes payments and acts as merchant of record for global tax compliance
- Cloudflare — provides hosting and edge infrastructure
Each of these providers has its own privacy practices governing how they handle data.
4. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (e.g., billing records for tax purposes — typically 7 years).
5. Your Rights (California Residents and Others)
If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):
- Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- Deletion — request that we delete your personal information
- Opt out — opt out of any sale or sharing of your personal information (we don't sell, so this defaults to opted-out)
- Non-discrimination — exercising these rights will not affect the price or quality of the Service we provide you

If you are in the European Union or United Kingdom, you may have additional rights under GDPR, including the right to data portability and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
6. Children
The Service is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
7. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS) and access controls on our backend systems. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure.
8. International Data Transfers
We are based in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or by posting a notice on the Service.
